Triple P Stepping Stone Booklet: A guide to Disruptive Behaviours

12 Mar 2020 9:30 am -11:00 am

Disruptive behaviour can take many forms. Some examples include whining or having tantrums, being aggressive towards others, refusing to follow instructions, biting, throwing things and swearing.   While most children will show some disruptive behaviour during childhood, children with disabilities are 3 to 4 times more likely to display disruptive behaviour.   It is important to deal with disruptive behaviour as early as possible.   Disruptive behaviour can be reduced when parents and caregivers teach children to accept rules and expectations, respect themselves and others, solve problems calmly and communicate their needs clearly.

This booklet and workshop will cover common reasons why children might behave in a disruptive manner and give parents ideas on how to prevent these behaviours and how to teach children to behave appropriately. The focus is on having clear expectations and rules and rewarding children for following them.   Also, what parents can do when rules are broken.
